Terahertz Rotational Spectroscopy of Greenhouse Gases Using Long Interaction Path-Lengths

چکیده
Even if on-board mm-wave/THz heterodyne receivers have been developed to measure greenhouse gases (GHGs) atmospheric profiles, rotational spectroscopy rests under-exploited for their monitoring unlike IR rovibrational spectroscopy. The present study deals with the ability of THz using long interaction path-lengths GHG laboratory investigations. High-resolution signatures non-polar molecules may be observed by probing very weak centrifugal distortion induced transitions. To illustrate, new measurements on CH4 and CF4 carried out. For CH4, pure transitions, recorded cw-THz photomixing up 2.6 in a White type cell adjusted 20 m, allowed update methane line list databases. Concerning CF4, Fabry-Perot absorption km effective pathlength was required detect intensities lower than 10−27 cm−1/(moleccm−2). Contrary previous synchrotron-based FT-FIR measurements, tetrahedral splitting lines is fully resolved. Finally, quantitative N2O O3 gas traces performed an simulation chamber submm-wave amplified multiplier chain coupled Chernin multi-pass 200 m path-length. these two polar GHGs at tropospheric stratospheric concentrations now considered.

Designing efficient policies to slow global warming requires an approach that combines economic tools with relations from the natural sciences. The dynamic integrated climate-economy (DICE) model presented here, an intertemporal general-equilibrium model of economic growth and climate change, can be used to investigate alternative approaches to slowing climate change. Evaluation of five policie...

Examination of research into pole alternatives indicates that, without exception, studies have found that total energy requirements associated with wood materials are considerably lower than those of commonly substituted materials. The substitution of high-energy-intensive materials for low-energy-using wood materials would contribute substantially to an overall increase in carbon

TERAHERTZ LIGHT Terahertz (THz=10Hz) radiation represents the last unexplored frontier of the radio wave and light spectrum. The so-called ‘Terahertz Gap’ encompasses frequencies invisible to the naked eye in the range from 100GHz (10Hz) up to roughly 30THz (3x10Hz). The former limit lies just above the microwave region, whereas the latter limit is located adjacent to infrared frequencies; the ...

til very recently, scientists still deliberated whether human activity was altering the global climate. Specifically, was the release of greenhouse gases, which trap heat radiating from the earth’s surface, to blame? With scientific evidence mounting in favor of the affirmative, the discussion is now turning to what steps society can take to protect our climate. One solution almost certainly wi...
